The California Senate has approved legislation designating a day each year to honor Harvey Milk, slain LGBTQ rights leader. The bill that proposed this day is one of two that more than 200 young people rallied in support of at the State Capitol on April 20 during Queer Youth Advocacy Day.
The New York State Assembly approved legislation on Tuesday night that grants marriage equality in the state. The measure will now move on to the State Senate.
New Hampshire Governor, John Lynch, said yesterday that he would sign the state’s same-sex marriage bill if it was amended to “further shield opponents from having to take part in ceremonies celebrating such unions.”
After much controversy surrounding Miss California Carrie Prejean’s anti-marriage equality comment during the Miss USA pageant, Donald Trump, owner of the pageant, announced Tuesday that Carrie would not be stripped of her Miss California title or crown. Despite her comment, it was actually a set of racy photos (not her viewpoints on marriage) that threatened her crown. Shanna Moakler, former co-executive director of the Miss California USA pageant, resigned from the organization on Wednesday, stating that she could no longer remain with the organization with “a clear conscience,” based on Trump’s decision.
The man convicted of a hate crime for killing Colorado transgender teen, Angie Zapata, was sentenced to an additional 60 years in prison this week. He had previously been sentenced to life in prison without parole last month.
