Prayers for Bobby Viewing Parties!

On Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 9 p.m. EDT/PST, Prayers for Bobby will premiere on Lifetime Television. Sigourney Weaver stars in this Lifetime Original Movie, based on a true story and Leroy Aarons’ book of the same name. The film tells the story of Mary Griffith, a profoundly religious wife and mother who begins to question her faith after the suicide of her gay son.

In honor of this important film, we hope you will consider hosting or attending a Prayers for Bobby Viewing Party. Using our Viewing Party Toolkit, it’s easy to organize a screening in your home that can also raise vital funds for The Trevor Project, so that every “Bobby” in this country has a safe place to turn in times of crisis and despair.

Prayers for Bobby poignantly encompasses the heart of The Trevor Project’s mission and the reasons why our programs and services are so important. We look forward to hearing about your reaction to Prayers for Bobby, and hope you and your friends are as inspired by it as we were.

Prayers for Bobby

Prayers for Bobby will play three times on Lifetime: Saturday, January 24, 9-11 PM; Sunday, January 25, 8-10 PM; and Tuesday, January 27, 9-11 PM.

More About Prayers for Bobby
Mary Griffith is a devout Christian who has raised her children with a conservative religious perspective. When her younger son, Bobby, reveals to his older brother that he is gay, the entire family dynamic is irrevocably shifted. While Bobby’s father and siblings slowly come to terms with his homosexuality, Mary turns to her steadfast beliefs in an attempt to “cure” her son. Alienated and quickly becoming more detached from the safety of his close-knit family, Bobby’s depression drives him to suicide. Now, faced with the devastating tragedy of losing a child, Mary begins to question her faith and, through a painfully emotional journey, ultimately draws strength and support from the gay community.

  1. thank you lifetime, thank you Sigourney Weaver. The story and movie was one of the most moving and eye-opening things I’ve ever seen in my life. Mrs. Griffith (and lifetime) will be saving lives for decades (and hopefully forever) to come. Thank you so very much.
