At The Trevor Project, we are blessed in many ways. First, to work for such a vital and worthy cause; and second, to inspire and be inspired by youth every day who, despite the intolerance and prejudice they may encounter, choose to speak up about their sexuality and take a stand against defamation and rejection.
One young activist chose to make a 2:55 minute video* about The Trevor Helpline. As part of YouTube’s Project 4 Awesome, Tyler created a PSA and in as little as a week, has reached an audience of more than 50,000.
We owe a special debt of gratitude to youth like Tyler who, through their passion and activism, proudly vocalize to the world the merits of a cause they sincerely believe in and in some cases, personally identify with.

Here are a few comments from viewers I pulled from Tyler’s video page:
“I’m sobbing. You are amazing. I love you, I love that you are beacon of light for other people and especially young people who are going through this. Thanks so much for posting this.”
“Wonderful, just wonderful! I’m so glad to see people taking action against LGBTQ suicide! It is a serious problem today, and I do my best to do just what you said, to tell every person, no matter if I know their sexuality or not, that I love them for who they are, and will accept them without question!”
“this video almost made me cry, it brought back my past and how much I wish I had known about this hotline a few years ago, it would have saved me a lot of anguish. just because of that fact, I wrote a check for 150 dollars to donate to the trevor project. I hope I truly help those 10 people :]”
On behalf of the staff at The Trevor Project, we wish you a very joyous holiday season and want to remind you that our helpline is operational 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, even during the holidays, so you never have to feel alone. If you need someone to talk to, give us a call. We’ll be here to listen.
